Project Overview

A long-term initiative to establish FreeBSD compatibility and functionality on Amazon EC2, initiated in 2006 and successfully implemented by 2011. Key achievements include:

• Developed a functional FreeBSD platform for Amazon EC2
• Maintained ongoing platform support since initial implementation
• Secured sponsorship from Amazon for continued development and release engineering work

The project originated from the author’s personal need to run FreeBSD on EC2 for the Tarsnap service and has since evolved into a recognized platform maintenance role.
